Course Description

This course is aimed at surgeons with experience in managing humeral condylar fracture and humeral intracondylar fissure (HIF), who wish to deepen their understanding of the aetiopathogenesis, biology and biomechanics these conditions, and develop their clinical decision-making and practical skills. Course content will be delivered through a combination of didactic presentations, case-based “fireside” discussions, and wet-lab practicals.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Improved knowledge of current literature regarding aetiopathogenesis, natural history, and treatment options for HIF in predisposed breeds, including Spaniels and French bulldogs.
  • Improved practical skills in surgical approaches to the humeral condylar fractures.
  • Understanding and practical application of strategies for managing chronic condylar fractures, malunion condylar fractures and complex dicondylar fractures.
  • Understanding and practical application of strategies for managing complications of HIF and HCF
  • Use of anatomic bone plates for the humeral condyle, and the humeral intracondylar stabilization and repair system

Dr. Beale’s passion is education. He has spent a large portion of his career teaching in hands-on surgery labs and speaking at large conferences. Dr. Beale co-authored Small Animal Arthroscopy, an industry defining textbook on orthopedics. He has written many other published articles and book chapters on specialized care. 

Dr. Beale received his DVM & completed his residency at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. After his board certification he joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in 1992 and practiced there until 2019. In 2020, Dr. Beale founded Beale's Best and Bark City Veterinary Specialists.

Dr. Beale costarred on NetGeoWILD’s hit series, Animal ER, and he even hosted his own radio show, Your Pet’s Health, which aired on Houston KTRH 740.
